Coordinated Program Review: Report of Findings
The Quabbin Regional School District has received the final "Coordinated Program Review: Report of Findings" from the Department of Early & Secondary Education (DESE) The final report is a public document that is now available on here on the districtÂ’s website - CPR Report of Findings in .pdf format.
A five-member Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education team visited Quabbin Regional School District during the week of March 17-20, 2008 to evaluate the implementation of selected criteria in the program areas of special education, civil rights and other related general education requirements, and English learner education. The team appreciated the opportunity to interview staff and parents, to observe classroom facilities and to review the programs underway in the district.
The Department of Early & Secondary Education onsite team commended the district for areas that were brought to its attention and that it believes have a significant and positive impact on the delivery of educational services for students enrolled in the Quabbin Regional School District. These areas are as follows:
The district is committed to limiting the number of students placed out- of -district by providing the least restrictive environment and appropriate programs for students with disabilities. These programs include Project Hope, Project Create, and NECC at the elementary schools; Project Involve and the Transition class at the middle school; and the Credit Retrieval Program and Project Involve at the high school.
The Department summarized the Special Education, Civil Rights and English Language Education compliance criteria found to be "Partially Implemented" or "Not Implemented". The district has developed and submitted a "Corrective Action Plan" for each area identified in the report. Director of Education Services Bob Berlo prepared the English Language Education (ELE) Corrective Action Plan. Director Newton prepared the draft Corrective Action Plans for Civil Rights and the Special Education. Copies of the Special Education, Civil Rights and English Language Education Corrective Action Plans will be posted here on the districtÂ’s website.
The Department of Elementary & Secondary Education requires "School districts and charter schools must demonstrate effective resolution of noncompliance identified by the Department as soon as possible but in no case later than one year from the issuance of the DepartmentÂ’s Final Program Review Report."
The School Committee Vice Chairperson and Superintendent have signed a written statement to accompany the completed Corrective Action Plans submitted to Department of Elementary and Secondary Education which provides an assurance that the Corrective Action Plans approved or ordered by the Department will be implemented by the school district.
